There is a reason that kohl-rimmed eyes are a classic, smokey eyes may come and go, but there is something almost poetic about the good ol’ kajal. For a lot of us Indian women, kajal forms a staple, if not the only, product in our vanity, and from the humble surma to its far more fancy versions that are now available, the kajal has truly come a long way. But, in case your hunt for the perfect kajal is still on, allow me to put forth some truly affordable recommendations.
The nostalgia is strong with this one, guys. This was the first kajal that I had bought, back in high school, and while I have moved on to its fancier brethren, I still think that at the price it retails at, which is Rs 45, I think it is so worth a buy. It glides on smoothly, is nicely pigmented, and stays put in the waterline for about 4-5 hours, after which it fades away. If you are just getting into makeup and are working on a shoestring budget, I would definitely recommend getting this, here.
Wet n Wild Color Icon Cold Liner Pencil
In case you didn’t get the memo, the ridiculously affordable Wet n Wild is now available in India! And apart from their Catsuit range of liquid lipsticks, their kohl pencils are widely raved about, and for good measure. Other than the classic black and brown, this range also has a nude eyeliner which helps a great deal in opening up your eyes, for a measly Rs 135! Get it here.
The one product that put Maybelline on the map of the Indian market, the Colossal Kajal has attained a cult status, especially among the younger crowd. The pigmentation that it offers is crazy, the neon packaging is love, it comes in a retractable form so no issues there either, and honestly, at Rs 180 a pop, it really is as good as it gets. You can buy it here.
If you are on the lookout for a kajal that is free of mineral oil and parabens, this kajal pencil from the house of Sugar Cosmetics would be your best bet. It is smudge-proof and can, therefore, be used as an eyeliner as well, and offers a beautiful, gel-like finish. It retails for Rs 399 here
Plum Angel Eyes Kohl Kajal
This one is for all those of you who crave the slightly messy, ‘I-woke-up-like-this’ look as this kajal pencil from Plum, apart from being completely natural, also comes with a smudger-tip at the end so that you can quickly smoke out your liner for a more lived-in kind of a look. It is available for Rs 495 here.
Hope you found this compilation helpful. If you have tried any of these kajals or have a recommendation of your own don’t forget to tell us in the comments below!
