BB v/s CC Creams

One of the biggest trends over the past few years in beauty has been BB and CC creams for the skin. We, at glamrada, get a lot of queries asking us what the real difference is in between BB cream and CC cream. We did our own research, asked some experts to separate the faff from the truth. And here is what we found out!

First up, both BB & CC Creams are basically amped up versions of tinted moisturizers with added benefits. They are a quick fix to give your skin a boost but don’t have as much impact as applying a separate serum, moisturizer or a sunscreen. They also don’t cover up skin’s imperfections as well as using a proper foundation. But they do make our life easier by combining our skincare and makeup routine in one easy step. A boon for time-strapped ladies like us!

BB Creams

BB stands for beauty/blemish balms. They were originally a HUGE trend in Korea and soon hit other countries as well. These products are multitaskers: a non-brightening primer, light foundation, moisturizer, and sunscreen in one, with built in anti-aging properties.

CC Cream

CC Creams are a spin off of the BB Creams and generally stand for “color correcting”. These products are meant to address issues like redness or sallowness (usually with light-diffusing particles). They usually contain a skin-brightening primer, light foundation, moisturizer, sunscreen, anti-aging ingredients, and sometimes collagen boosters. CC cream is like BB’s big sister containing the same crucial properties with enhanced focus on skin care. As a result, the SPF in CC creams tends to be higher than BB and the heavier consistency also has more impact on age spots, uneven skin tone and wrinkles than a BB Cream.

One of the primary difference between BB & CC Creams lies in the texture. BB Creams are slightly heavier on the skin and CC Creams impart an airy veil of coverage which is protective as well.

While BB and CC creams are marketed for separate issues and are theoretically different, we have tried many BBs and CC creams–and honestly, they seem almost the same. But, what causes the real confusion is that BB and CC benefits and coverage vary greatly among different brands.

You have to be diligent in reading ingredients and most importantly, trying them out to figure out what you want and need. Happy Shopping!
