Whether you are a makeup expert or a beginner, it is always great to start going animal-friendly. Unfortunately, animal testing is the dark underbelly of the beauty industry and cruelty-free brands are hard to come by. And since we love our animals as much as we love our makeup, we decided to put together a few of our favorite cruelty-free makeup brands.
Just to be clear, cruelty-free is a label for products or activities that do not harm or kill animals. Products tested on animals are not considered cruelty-free, since these tests are often painful and cause the suffering of millions of animals every year.
This hugely popular makeup brand is certified cruelty free by PETA and states that their products are 100% cruelty free. The only drawback here is that Loreal, the parent company tests on animals.
Too Faced is a prestigious beauty brand which is cruelty-free. The brand believes in the power of transformative makeup with the idea that makeup should be fun and not intimidate.
The cruelty-free brand is committed to ending animal testing in totality. Besides not testing on animals, Urban Decay also makes sure others do not test on animals on its behalf. The company also offers vegan products that do not contain any animal-derived ingredients.
BECCA Cosmetics has a wide range of products that flatter a range of skin tones. Although BECCA cosmetics is cruelty-free, rumor has it that Estee Lauder, which is known to test on animals will acquire it soon. Whether BECCA remains cruelty-free post the merger is yet to be known.
